Coffee Break German focuses on standard High German (Hochdeutsch) and if you use the words and phrases covered in the course you'll be understood throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and indeed any other area where German is spoken.
Thomas, our main teacher for Coffee Break German, comes from the south of Germany and is based in Innsbruck, Austria. Some of his pronunciation is southern, e.g. he'll pronounce the word fertig (meaning "ready") with a hard -g- sound, whereas speakers in other parts of the German-speaking world may pronounce it more like a -ch sound (as in Scottish "loch"). However, in each episode of Coffee Break German, Thomas and Mark are joined by Julia who is from Leipzig in the northeast of Germany, so there's always a balance of accents.
